I am an out-of-network provider for insurance carriers, which means that payment is expected at the end of each session. In the event that you have insurance and wish to seek reimbursement for out-of-network services, I will assist by providing you with paperwork that you can submit to your insurance company. My standard fee is $165 per 55-minute individual or couple’s session, and $70 per 90-minute group therapy. Visiting therapy fees depend in part on travel time.
I have chosen not to contract with insurance companies for several reasons:
When an insurance company is involved, they have access to your medical records and require that therapists enter notes from each session that disclose personal information. I prefer to keep sensitive patient information confidential to protect your privacy and allow you to feel that therapy is a safe environment in which you can have confidentiality.
Insurance companies require a diagnosis in order to reimburse providers for therapy. There are many cases in which no diagnosis exists, and I feel it is unethical to enter a diagnosis into a patient’s medical record in order to receive payment.
Insurance companies only reimburse for 40-45-minute sessions, which in my experience is far from ideal when working toward true change. I meet with patients for a full hour.
